I was asking questions on another site when rbturner told me to try this site. I have now been using the site for awhile as East Houston and figured I ought to introduce myself and find out if there are other like minded people in the east Houston area. There are a couple of clubs in the general area, but they are a good drive from my house.
In the mid-fifties, my brother and I started out with a Lionel layout on two 4x8 sheets. My Dad had bought the set used and set up some of the stuff for one Christmas. Every Christmas and birthday after that, for about three years, we each got another piece from the set. The set was ever expanding in no specific era with no specific line, just fun stuff to run. When we moved, the set was donated to the Boy's club and we got into HO. I stayed with it, on and off, for about 15 more years and then packed it all into storage.
I got back into the hobby due to COVID; had to find something to do while stuck at home. As before, I started small with 4x8, with no specific era or line, and have been expanding ever since with new and used pieces. I am a runner way more than a modeller. I focus mostly on keeping everything running and on the track. I am dabbling in DCC and "enjoy" the challenge of signalling and automation. There is no specific plan for the layout; just what fits in the area of the garage I am allowed to use and what I pick up from Ebay or from people getting out of the hobby. I do have a small town and some industries, but mostly a lot of track and two yards.
I have enjoyed the forum, particularly its informality. The threads quite often get way off track in a humorous way. Obviously, many of the members have know each other a long time.
Cheers to what you have got going here.
