Hey good folks of the Tyco Forum,
I'm Charlie and I live in the Norfolk Virginia area. I found this site by way of the Model Trains Forum. I received my first HO train set in 1972; it was a special issue set that was created by Tyco for the Sears & Roebuck Christmas season. I still have the F9 A & B units and all of the rolling stock from that set. Operations ceased in '77 when I went off to college. I still collected some through the years but never was able to carve out the time & space for anything resembling a permanent layout. That all changed this past year when for the first time I was able to put track to plywood. What I have isn't fancy by any stretch of the imagination; but it's a start. And that's a huge part of our hobby: the 'imagination' part. The years that I had my first set were rather difficult ones for me; and that set created an escape. Small as the double loop was, it was often times an invaluable trip away from stuff I was just too young to figure out. So after all these years, I just want to see my little trains run again. It's like when you see an old friend for the first time in many years. Maybe they're not as fast as they used to be, they've got a few nicks & dings here and there; but it's just so good to see an old friend one more time.
Many of us 'train people' have inherited a set or collection from a relative. Most of my Mantua & Tyco motive power I inherited from my late father-in-law and that's another part of why I'm here. I want to bring these engines back to life to honor in a small way a really great person.
Even though I've owned trains for a number of years, I've never taken the first shell off and worked on any of them until recently. So I'm basically a beginner in so many ways; and that's one thing that makes this forum great: the tremendous wealth of knowledge of all the members. So I'm hoping you folks can help to just get my little trains running again !
