Hello!
I'm new to the forums here, and model railroading in general.
My name is Weston, and I'm just getting into the hobby of model railroading. I have a lot of older stuff, some for sure are older tyco stuff, that I picked up off a buddy for cheap. I also bought out the local hobby store's selection of track when the owner decided to retire and sold the store to a different hob shop that doesn't do trains. And lastly, I was given my Grandma's old stuff by my grandpa. I've also picked up some other older stuff off FB and Ebay, just a few working locos as most of what I had gotten didnt work.
Here soon in the next few months the wife and I are moving out from our apartment and into a house, which has 2 living rooms one which gets to have my gaming PC, and I ge to build a layout in there. In the mean time I have what I'm calling a test loop set up over in my grandpa's basement. It's just a 4x8 with 2 unconnected loops setup, and I've just been running the outer one to test locos and rolling stock.
I've went through and determined what locos need what. I'll probably be taking them in to the nearest hobby shop to get them all cleaned up and working with what they can do and get parts for, but I'm certain I'll end up needing to find parts for some of the older ones I'm certain are Tyco's.
Reason for taking them in is the few that were my grandma's I really want to get running again. They are sentimental to me, and I'd like them to be in top shape.Id probably end up putting them in a display case anyways, but at elast I'd know they are good runners, and could take them out, lube them up, and run them around when I want to.
I have around 16 locomotives, so jumping in and fixing them all up would just be a bit much for me with everything else going on in life right now. Plus I need to start working on a layout to get started building something, so I have something ready when we move in.
Anyways, thanks for having me here in the forums and I look forward to learning a lot in this hobby.
