Dear All,
On Thursday I took a trip to Yorkshire, which is a couple of hundred miles from Warwick, to collect an E-bay purchase of US-1. There is never that much US-1 on sale in the UK, mostly the common stuff. However the one bonus is that you can almost guarantee that any boxed set will be sold 'collect only'. This means that only really keen or local collectors go for it, and lucklily these are limited too....
Moral of the story: if you sell US-1 collect only in the UK you will sell it cheap, if at all..... Few people seem to have realised that if they threw away the box they would probably get more, as they could post it, however I digress.....
I was collecting a very nice complete Highways Contruction set (in a very nice box) with some extra accessories. The set is the most common one to turn up in the UK. What surprised me most was the leaflet that was enclosed in the set. It is in eight page fold out format, five pages are devoted to US-1 and the other three to a racing system called 'Nite Glow', which says that it is 1/48 scale, except it still runs on Quick Click track and many of the vehicles also appeared in US-1 -The Jeep, Pick Up and Firebird...
Here are the U-1 pages:
What surprises me the most is the limited range. OK the leaflet in undated, but I thought the railroad crossing and road rail set were current almost throughout the range?
I guess not everything was sold in Europe? Perhaps that explains why most of my sets (with UK plugs and transformers are...Highways Construction? And posibly also why there are no 12" radius curves to be had here?
