This is my first Marx piece, bought it for a dollar, mostly as a curiousity at first. What with the molded on brake wheel, I figure it to be a step less than Tyco...until I threw it in a consist and for hour upon hour, good track, fair track, the piece never once derailed. Found that other Marx pieces performed equally splendid. Now I snap it up whenever I can find it- this stuff is major vintagely cool. I have been warned off some of the locomotives, having been told that the motors and drives aren't up to par. Agree or disagree? I don't want to buy any more junky locomotives- I have a box full of them for parts.
My second Marx piece. I starting to fall in love now...
The white window trim, the optomistic handrails...the fabulous tracking ability...I was starting to fall hard for these overlooked gems. Then I discovered this beauty- an early attempt at HO fine scale.
I picked up this Marx Monon work caboose today at an antique store, the Marx NYC deluxe caboose is a favorite ebay find, and the derrick car is a Model Power from the original Marx tooling. The heritage is obvious.

umpdan31: I don't know how it was in other parts of the country, but March sure came in like a lion yesterday. Wind gusts up to 50 mph. I saw a flock of geese overhead flying backwards.

newbieho: So...why were you going backwards when you saw the flock of geese flying overhead?

umpdan31: Not me, the geese, silly.

mph: I just got home from work and have been dealing with ducks - as in ducking from flying objects.

rbturner: What you need to try Mark is some hand-to-hand combat with her.

mph: Randy, that's not a good idea. She put me in the hospital with her fist once. It was before we were married so she tells everyone that she knocked some sense into me.

umpdan31: I'm not even going to ask, Mark

mph: I'm not sharing here. That is one of two stories I only tell in person so I can see the look on people's faces. Interestingly enough, the other story also involves my wife and a hospital.

newbieho: You know, Mark, you should have paid attention during those unarmed combat sessions....
