The GP30 is by far and away my favorite locomotive. Sadly by the time I was cognizant to recognize them, they were few and far between. But every now and then a pleasant surprise. Of course now the survivors are all in museums, where I have a special fondness for B&O 6944.
Anyway. That NH&I #40 project was something else. Loopy sent me the new loco and a few parts and begged me to make him one. I told him I had never attempted any kind of meaningful kitbash before so couldn't he please find someone else to do it? But after I'd restored his Penn Line Crusader, he was insistent.
It took me a long time. I barely got it done before he passed. But he got it, and was thrilled. And I don't think I did too bad a job.
