So the grind of 2017 continues: I was so looking forward to a break to finish out the last two weeks over the holidays, but instead everyone has been sick, both here at home and places we've visited, as well as folks coming here to visit us. So much for my great ideas - it's been a task just to stay "functional". But we're well enough for me to have a startling realization: As it stands, 2017 would be the first year since 2002 where I did not operate a train on the STC, and the first since 2000 where I did not operate a personal "layout" of some crude fashion. Say what?!
Yeah. Thanks to "Life, Inc" the poor layout board has basically been dormant and neglected. Despite the odd incidental photo pose, boxes have barricaded the back half and scenery has been packed since the day I plopped the mess into this room in Sept 2016.
Well, this aggression can no longer stand! I realize I miss the soothing clacks of a train in slow orbit.
I managed to install a new light fixture a couple days ago to slay the foreground shadows. With that in place, I'm hoping to exterminate the cobwebs, inventory the scenery and get things mostly rebuilt and running by New Year's Eve. I hope to enlist one or both of the girls to help populate it with their own personal spin, if I can create enough breathing room around the layout. It's still tight in my office.
Not so sure it will happen. I had really wanted to comprehensively rewire some stuff first while the board was depopulated, but at this point the basics will have to suffice.
But I've cleared most of the clutter and look: one of the boxes is gone!
Unfortunately my efforts are off to an rocky start. The box that's missing, for anyone who paid attention in the past, is the one that had most of the buildings. I had to set it temporarily on the washing machine which was running. 20 minutes later I went to retrieve it, but not before the machine went into high-spin... I watched it pitch the box to the floor as I walked into the room. Sigh. Life Inc strikes again. But I think the damage is minimal.
Maybe I'll post pics of the buildings... I'm thinking I might trade a few out.
Meanwhile, NYE looms....
