Hello all,
I am a 62-year-old, married for 42 years, 2 kids, 5 grandkids guy who has decided to get back into electric trains. I sold my collection several years ago and thought I was done with trains. I saved two sets for my grandsons and a few of my really nice and sentimental trains and got rid of the rest. In Nov. I had a triple bypass and while recovering, with very little to do, I caught the bug once again. I have no room for a big layout, but I am really interested in repairing them. I started with a Tyco C-630 Spirit of 76 and was successful at returning it to life. That gave me a little confidence, so I bought a ton of broken trains on Ebay. I also bought a large collection locally. Now I have about 20 or more broken trains to work on.
I know this forum is a Tyco forum, and I love my old Tyco trains. In fact, one of my first trains was a Tyco "Super Chief" passenger train set. Got it for my birthday in 1971. After all these years, I have only the power unit, but I bought a dummy and found a set of the passenger cars, so I more or less have my train back. I hope we can discuss other brands on this forum, I saw an "other HO brands" area, so I guess this is acceptable. I have been on another model train forum and the chaps there are very nice, but the forum is running slow, and all of the ads are for girls in one form or another. I wonder if it is secretly run by a porn site. Don't get me wrong, I like girls, but there is a time and place for everything.
I have visited the Literature library, and that is very good. I am looking for exactly these owner's manuals, but only one on all of the 13 pages was one I was looking for. I am happy to post the ones I have, but mine are in PDF, not JPEG. They are high resolution scans that everyone will be pleased with. Can anyone tell me if I can start my own thread for the publications I have, or do I need to post them there?
I have a lot of questions about repairing these trains, but understand I am a novice at this, so you will have to talk to me like I have never seen the inside of an electric train, because mostly I haven't.
BTW, I live in the DFW area if that matters to anyone.
I tried to add a photo, but the site tells me it is too big, I read it has to be under 1 mg, it is 283 kb, what am I doing wrong there?
Cheers for now,
Michael
