Here is some info on the pickup:

I have found a few videos from people who used it. Seems good as long as you add a touch of overdrive or distortion. Since I love 80s metal, either is mandatory.
Yep, both of those Dynasty models are MIJ by Matsumoku. Both were made in 1984 and are all original. Since I am far from an accomplished player, I can not really say they are good instruments. But my 2 oldest daughters steal the bass every chance they get. Unfortunately, my wife has put a "no kids allowed" ban on the guitar. Both have awesome balance for me, especially when seated. Neither slides around like a Gibson-style V does.
I have seen a couple of the Aria Pro II "explorer" guitars on ebay. I have been sorely tempted! I have several "beginner models" and have never had a problem with them. In fact, my first guitar was a no name POS from the 1983 Sears Christmas catalog. Cost $100 with amp. The body was 1/2" plywood! It has proven to be tough as nails! My 3 oldest kids learned to play on it. And It is still all original and going strong:
Fixed up a very similar bass for a friend of mine. Unfortunately his was a bit more towards the **** end, but we got the action playable and the electonics clean and he was happy with the result.
Some nice looking guitar work in here! I'll offer up a picture of two of my guitars, modified about ten years ago. I go through phases of playing and not playing, but the guitars always stick around.
The Telecaster is a Mexican Fender. I carved the pickguard out of a piece of plexiglass and added a mini-humbucker to the neck. The Strat is a mixture of things...Squier Bullet body, Affinity series neck, GFS humbuckers, and a metal pickguard I made in high school shop class. To be honest I'm surprised the Strat even works, but it's been like this for almost a decade and is still kicking.
The pickguard on the strat is awesome and kind of steampunk. I sprayed the pickguard on my Mexican Fender P-bass with Sliver hammertone paint. It's a great look, but it's not real metal like yours.
