hey all so a bit of catch up is needed long story short a person i considered a "friend" who moved in and made my life miserable has been evicted (that turned ugly too) and now I'm stuck with the task of revamping and somewhat downsizing my layout.
out with the modern pacific electric (which was supposed to be 50-50 but turned out to be 99.5 to .5)
and in with the Bear valley
so first things first, the era is 1977ish
reason: most of my likes are from the 70's, it also helps with me looking for a bigger variety of rolling stock and I can keep most of my tyco boxcars with roofwalks, since I can get away with second hand cars and rebuild them later if need be also easier to find road names
second, location: bear valley is outside the city of big bear california, it's purpose was conceived in the 1950's to ease auto traffic coming up and down the mountain and also to keep trucks off the hill
downsizing: the layout is literally too industrial! every 6 inches is another structure, and when I tried to squeeze in a passenger station, somehow it got removed or paved over, or a new "storage track" got put in! also for a short line it sure seemed like mega industries everywhere!
so, whats going bye bye (and put up for sale?)
the plastics plant (remove) (which was supposed to be a freeze dried food packaging plant, yeah that really stuck-oh wait that was my idea no wonder it changed!)
the grain elevator: (downsize) waaaay too big
the Dr. pepper bottling plant: (remove) again too mega big for my liking, instead of demure like the old Pepsi plant near my house, it morphed into the Downey Ca. coca cola plant
the brewery: (remove) it's just too damn big for a mountain town, plus again it became to rail oriented, literally everything came in and out by rail, even water!
what industries I'm planning on/staying
the rock quarry/ processing that's staying as is this is the anchor industry
intermodal yard (staying but will get moved somewhere else) since semi trucks are banned from the mountain road up, bear valley built an intermodal facility to handle the trailers
propane (new)
livestock (maybe) I' need some ideas as to why i'd have stock cars, I'm thinking like the drgw in that time as bringing down livestock to the low lands in winter
concrete plant: that's staying but its not going to be filled with cars all the time
cold storage distribution: (New) figured that might be a good idea for groceries in the mountain
now, for the motive power: power for the BV will be 2 SD-24's. interchange will be from the SP, (sd-9...I need another unit) UP, (sw 10) and the AT&SF. (U boat, sd 26 and a GP-20 I think) the quarry road, clementine rock and sand has a 2-8-0 and a U6b. passenger service will be from an RDC and some coaches. CTR&S also runs passenger specials with the steamer
I also still have a gen 1 tyco C-630, I'm not ditching that so I need some help into what I can use that beast for!
ok folks, ideas and critiques welcome i could use some help!
