All day I have worked on this track work project, starting at 9 a.m. and I just finished up a little after 7.
I didn't have a lot of trouble with the track work, but the wiring got to be a little bit of a nightmare. I had figured the powered frogs would be the same polarity when switched but I found out they had to be alternate polarity in order for the train to run through the crossover, so that got to be a little bit of a problem.
Everything worked out okay though, and it runs just fine.
The usual problems that follow me around did not fail to show themselves today either. One of my frog power wires broke off from the connector, so I had to take that apart and resolder, then I had pre-wired the frogs in parallel, only to discover they needed to be split, which meant I had one lead that was too short.
Then I discovered that the Conrail boxcar that was in the test train had wander wheels, so I was battling with derailments with that thing all evening until I figured out it was the boxcar and not the track that was causing the problem.
The work was definitely worth the effort because the trains run through that crossover as if it wasn't there. It is really nice.
