Any chance I get I like to show a lifetime of Dad's goodies, there's also stuff in there that he inherited from one of his train buddies, who must have been a lifer with an amazing layout(I never saw it) the engine house middle front is scratch build with amazing detail by Alex,Dad's friend as time goes on I'll post up pics of the more interesting stuff. appreciate the interest & love the banter, all comment's & suggestions are welcome! Rich.

this one's a shame, it's a Rossi, runs nice, was a blue something, NJC comet , whatever, rear truck wont hold the wheels other than that the chassis is good, spare parts at a minimum , maybe a piece for a future shell. glued back a couple of shell parts, but that black paint?

another Tyco, did the clean & lube & it was running nice, till it got to the back of the table, everything seems to break or derail back there to make me crawl in, anyway it did the loose motor gear thingy, dabbed a little super glue & back in action, another naturally weathered engine.Gotta see if I can find handrails for the rear. now I just have to find a truck cover with that color dirt on it!

Welcome, RC. Great to see another tinkerer join the forum.
I've never seen the bearing pull out of the plastic endbell of a Rivarossi motor like that. I'm surprised you were able to save it. I had one that was rusted solid, but the part that rusts most is the rubber magnet ring. The ferrous particles inside it rust and swell, and as I dug the armature out of it it just crumbled. Once I did and cleaned it up the armature runs like new in any other motor housing.
That Pacific started as a Dreyfuss Hudson, but someone stuck a Pacific trailing truck on and painted it blue and black. All the detail has been sanded off of the boiler as well.

I don't think they intended for it to come apart like that, I could not get the mounting screws out, so I unbent the tabs they press in, I never expected that to run, but it was an opportunity to take one apart, figure out the brushes & springs & yes tinker a while.I wouldn't chance messing up one of Dad's Rossi's Not sure if it was that motor which WD40'd or another I used contact cleaner but when I put power to it got a nice little ball of fire, just a flash & then the darn thing ran. Gotta see if I have any trailing trucks in my parts stash if so I just have to find a blue shell, being in Jersey I could use a comet, don't have much Jersey stuff!

You snuck in on me, not sure, the guy who bought the big lot (for 9.99) never paid, I have some tenders in there & I think I still have a good tender from the conrail I just did, but it has power pick up for a light but not hooked into the bar, I'd have to figure out getting that to the pick up bar on the engine, paint it black to & call it the bat train!
rbturner: Many years ago I built a Budweiser Clydesdale, 8 horse hit w/ wagon. It sat on a cobblestone base. I painted each cobblestone individually with various earth tone colors. It looked great but was a real job.

frankenstein: Why get stalled? Things like that have a great variation to them, and are largely interpretive.

ZeldaTheSwordsman: Because I needed to be sure the cobblestones weren't completely off the wall before proceeding to the weathering stage of painting the base. I know there's a lot of variation, but I was worried I had still managed to goof it up

methuener: My B&O Pratt Street layout will be all street running and all cobblestones. I'm going with paper sheets with cobblestones printed from photo images.

eilif: Is there a topic where we share our collection of rolling stock from other member's freelanced railroads? I've got a BC&E on the way that will join equipment from JNXT, NMN, and JFI, it'd be nice to have a specific place to share this stuff.

JNXT 7707: I don't think there is one, or a specific place for that - but just create one under "Gone to Beans Coffee Shop" I'd say. Sounds like it could be fun!

JNXT 7707: I've also acquired a small handful of mystery freelance roads from train shows, done with such care that I can't think of stripping them.

John: JNXT, Don't want the cars but would like to see the pictures. Please!

John: I guess I will never understand the romantic nostalgia that is felt about Woodstock. I grew up in that era. Woodstock seemed more like a Drunken Roman Orgy than a music festival. I guess I was a Red Neck then too.

rbturner: John; AMEN.

JNXT 7707: I second that. I do like some of the music but the event itself was a disaster. It has improved over the years though, like a fine hippie wine

The Jade Fog, formerly: Dave: Just heard Canned Heat for the first time. Sounds like pretty good blues work. The Dead are on in a few hours!

The Jade Fog, formerly: Dave: Are there no fences strong enough or tall enough to contain these birds of destruction?

mph: Nothing that I can find. I may have to try something drastic and build a mote filled with Fogite - that will stop anything, right?
