Setup the Kato set last night and it works pretty well.
There appear to be two pieces of track that have either weak connections or are a bit dirty, but otherwise everything works great. The power pack and hookup cables were still twist-tied together and the little accessory bits were still bagged in the package containing the train. I suspect someone dropped almost $200 on this set opened it up (lost the track box) and never ran it!
Now it's pretty much for sure that I'm going to have an N-scale loop with two sidings on top of my mountain.
It sure does. I -and my wallet- still prefer HO, but I can definitely see the appeal to these tiny little miracles that run so smooth and look so good.
As it happens I have a small random handful of N Gauge freight cars that I'm going to pull out of the for-sale bin and might even have a working engine. I figure a loop with two sidings so I can swap trains back and forth -while not being much of an operating layout- would at least be a pretty neat sort of operating accessory to have on the mountain. And as I mentioned in my other thread, the chance to dabble just a bit in modeling in another scale is a welcome opportunity.

rbturner: Just spent a few minutes on the MR forum. Thankfully we do not have the know-it-all elite snots here like they have there.

The Jade Fog, formerly: Dave: I would do that IF I were a member there! I pop in on that site to look around from time to time, but ease on out pretty quietly and close the door behind me. It can be entertaining to listen to the arguing!

rbturner: Take a look at the Bachmann forum some time. I swear they have little to no reading comprehension.
