I figured a way to test paint & primer combinations BEFORE I waste an entire day on a fail. $1.48 box of plastic spoons for a test surface and marking the combo on the spoon with a Sharpie.
First up; primers. From left to right, Rustoleum White Plastic Primer (found it in the shed. must have been mom's), Model Master White Primer, and the wretched Krylon white primer. Rustoleum and Model Master sprayed nice and dried nice and smooth. You can't tell by the photo, but the Krylon went on rough like egg shell.
The yellows, left to right; Rustoleum primer; Model Master Chrysler Yellow. 2nd from left, Model Master primer and Chrysler Yellow. 3rd from the left, Rustoleum primer and Rustoleum Sunrise Yellow; not bad really. And finally, Rustoleum primer and Krylon Bauhause Gold, looking every bit as rough as it did on the trains. Absolute **** paint!
Left to right all with Rustoleum plastic primer: Rustoleum Hunter Green; Valspar Luscious Green, Krylon Fusion Patriotic Blue (not as bad as I expected, but not great either) and Rustoleum Sunrise Red.
Conclusions; Krylon paints SUCK! All shall be disposed of.
Rustoleum primer for plastic is pretty good.
Luscious Green will be the color for the logging caboose because it's very close to the Cherry Valley 2-6-6-2 green.
The Overland passenger cars will all be sprayed in Model Master primer and Chrysler Yellow.
I need to go back to Hobby Lobby and look into Model Master reds and blues.
Hope this will help someone else!
