I can't find the illustrations that I wanted to use and after the week I've had, I just don't have the energy to create them right now, so let me say this.
With two correctly running pancake motors and good adhesion to the rails, the two motors act as one motor. The armatures are connected to each other through the gears and rails because the gears are all rotating exactly like the armature. It's that simple. It's the same as connecting two motor's output shafts together with tubing. As long as one isn't vastly more powerful than the other, their horsepower and torque is additive, period. If one motor runs poorly, it's the same as a single motor with a partial internal failure and the result is the same; a poorly running train.
With worm gear drives, running more than one engine is likely causing damage to both engines. The gear system changes the direction of rotation causing extreme stress on the worm drive. That's it in a nutshell.
That's about all of the explanation that I can muster up today.
My mind just blew out, but this makes sense.
Should have ordered a few more pancakers from 'Cuda!

yardmaster54: A map of WV from the 50's & 60's, must of had 2 roads. One going north and south and one going east & west.

JNXT 7707: Living in DFW, I'd pay money to live in a state with just 2 roads!

yardmaster54: Jerry when you lived in WV did you ever visit the Cass scenic railroad?
Nov 17, 2019 20:50:26 GMT -5
JNXT 7707: Yes I did, YM. Rode it many times, strting as a kid back in the 60s all the way up to when I took my future bride on it in 2007. I am hoping to ride it again in the fall of 2020 if all goes to plan! Have you ever rode it?

oldtimer52: Oh goodie. I just got a recipe for a garlic and butter roasted, stuffed flamingo. Just in time for Thanksgiving.

The Jade Fog, formerly: Dave: But you'll have to substitute a duck for the flamingo, unless you live out a few inches further than the long arm of the law (at least here in the States).

wks: I believe eating flamingo meat would be sacrilege at least on this forum.

Nov 19, 2019 13:30:30 GMT -5
The Jade Fog, formerly: Dave: That sounds like dangerous and painful territory, Randy. I'll know your pain at Thanksgiving when the in-laws' TVs don't change from the Hallmark channel.

yardmaster54: No I have not Jerry. I hope to some day though.

JNXT 7707: If you go, take the train all the way up to the top of Bald Knob. In the fall, the colors are incredible. I think it was around the first week of October when I was last there - of course the leaves peak at different times.
